Faint halo rings around sprayed objects are a common issue in industrial finishing, especially when coating small parts, raised surfaces, edges, or objects placed on fixtures. These rings usually appear as light circular shadows, dry overspray marks, or uneven gloss areas around the sprayed object. Although they may seem minor, halo rings can reduce the professional appearance of the finished surface and may require rework if they are visible after drying.
One major cause is overspray bounce-back. When paint particles hit the object or the surface around it, some particles rebound into the air and settle nearby. These dry or semi-dry particles form a faint ring around the sprayed area. This is more likely when air pressure is too high, spray distance is too far, or booth airflow pushes overspray back toward the workpiece.
Another cause is poor spray angle. If the operator sprays directly at an edge, corner, or raised object, the air stream can create turbulence. This turbulence moves coating particles unevenly, leaving a soft halo around the part. Instead of spraying too heavily from one direction, use controlled passes and keep the gun angle consistent. A stable spray pattern from LVLP Spray Gun Metal-forged, Non-deforming can help reduce uncontrolled overspray and improve finish consistency.
Incorrect masking can also create halo rings. When tape, templates, fixtures, or objects sit slightly above the surface, paint may build up around the edge. After drying, the outline can appear as a ring or shadow. To avoid this, make sure masking materials are properly sealed and positioned. For precision work, reduce fluid output and apply lighter coats near edges.
Surface contamination is another possible reason. Oil, silicone, dust, or moisture around the sprayed area can change how the coating wets the surface. This may create circular defects that look like halo marks. Before spraying, clean the surface thoroughly with the correct cleaner and use a tack cloth if needed. Do not touch cleaned surfaces with bare hands.
To remove halo rings, first identify whether the defect is dry overspray, uneven gloss, or surface contamination. If the coating is still wet, adjusting the spray technique and applying a light blending pass may correct the issue. If the coating has dried, the surface may need light sanding with suitable abrasive, cleaning, and recoating. For severe rings caused by contamination, the coating may need to be removed from the affected area before refinishing.
Prevention is the best solution. Lower excessive air pressure, maintain the correct spray distance, use proper overlap, and avoid flooding edges with too much material. Check booth airflow and make sure parts are positioned to minimize bounce-back. A quality air spray gun with controlled atomization helps reduce the chance of visible halos.
For workshops that need cleaner and more repeatable results, LVLP Spray Gun Metal-forged, Non-deforming offers strong structural stability and reliable spraying control. By combining the right equipment with good technique, operators can reduce halo rings, improve surface quality, and deliver a smoother industrial coating finish.
