Small internal passages are the hidden reason many spray guns lose performance. Even when the cup, nozzle, and air cap look clean, residue can remain inside the fluid channel, around the needle seat, behind the nozzle thread, and in the air cap horns. Over time, this buildup causes spitting, uneven fan shape, weak atomization, color contamination, and delayed trigger response.
Start cleaning immediately after spraying. Do not leave activated clear coat, 2K primer, or catalyzed material inside the gun. Empty the cup, wipe excess coating, and add the correct cleaning solvent. Shake gently, then spray solvent into a proper cleaning station until the discharge looks clear. This first flush removes most wet material before it starts curing.
Next, disassemble the gun carefully. Remove the air cap, nozzle, needle, fluid adjustment knob, and cup filter if applicable. Keep parts organized on a clean mat. Never use steel wire, drill bits, or hard needles inside precision passages. They can scratch the nozzle seat and permanently distort atomization. Use nylon micro-brushes, soft cleaning picks, and manufacturer-approved cleaning tools.
For tiny internal pipelines, use controlled solvent flushing. Fill the fluid inlet with clean solvent and allow it to soak briefly. Then use a small squeeze bottle to push solvent through the channel from both directions. If the gun design allows it, back-flush gently by covering the nozzle area with a cloth while introducing solvent pressure. Do not overpressure the body or force solvent into air passages where seals can swell.
The LVLP Spray Gun Premium Crafted, Matte Finished should be cleaned with attention to the needle packing area. Paint residue near the packing can create drag, causing the needle to close slowly and produce spitting at the end of a pass. After cleaning, inspect the needle tip under light. It should be smooth, straight, and free of dried coating. A damaged needle or nozzle must be replaced as a matched set.
Air cap cleaning is equally important. Blocked horn holes create a lopsided fan pattern. Soak the cap briefly, then clean holes with a soft cap brush or approved plastic tool. When using an air spray gun for metallic basecoat, any residue in the cap can disturb flake distribution and create mottling.
After cleaning, dry all parts with clean compressed air at low pressure. Lubricate only the recommended moving points, avoiding silicone-based products that can cause fisheyes. Reassemble the gun and perform a solvent spray test followed by a pattern test on masking paper.
The LVLP Spray Gun Premium Crafted, Matte Finished will maintain stable atomization longer when internal cleaning is treated as part of production, not an end-of-day shortcut. A clean internal channel means predictable trigger response, cleaner color changes, and fewer refinishing defects.
