According to the report of CNBC on April 7 local time, an insider said that several senior officials of the United States Department of Commerce will go to Beijing and Shanghai next week to prepare for the possible visit of Secretary of Commerce Gina Raymond to China later this year. The report states that a spokesperson for the US Department of Commerce has confirmed this matter.
According to CNBC, the delegation visiting Beijing and Shanghai includes senior officials such as Elizabeth Economy, Raymond's senior advisor on China issues, and Scott Tatlock, the Deputy Assistant Minister for China and Mongolia Affairs at the US Department of Commerce.
A spokesperson for the US Department of Commerce has confirmed this visit and stated that these officials will "meet with US business service officials, government counterparts, and industry to discuss bilateral trade and business opportunities for US companies".
The report also mentioned that Elizabeth and her delegation will evaluate whether Raymond's visit to China and his meeting with the Chinese side will produce results worth visiting through this itinerary. Insiders say that if there are no results from this visit, there may be risks in the realization of Raymond's potential visit.
The "achievements" referred to here are exemplified by CNBC, citing the visit of French President Marcon to China. On the 6th, French aircraft manufacturer Airbus announced the signing of a bulk procurement agreement with China for 160 aircraft worth approximately $20 billion and the construction of a second production line in Tianjin, doubling its production capacity in China.
According to an earlier report on Observer Network, Raymond revealed in an interview with US media last month (March) that she is considering a visit to China this year to "ease the situation". Before her visit, she will send a team to China for consultation, and the latter's visit may take place this spring. But she also claimed at the time that the United States was making reviewing investment in China a "priority" and had to "act cautiously" to avoid harming the American people.
On March 8th, the head of the US Department of the Ministry of Commerce of China responded by stating that China had taken note of relevant media reports. China has not received any suggestions from the US regarding Minister Raymond's visit to China so far. We believe that it is important for the business departments of both sides to maintain dialogue and communication, and we are open to Minister Raymond's desire to visit China. China will continue to be committed to resolving mutual concerns and promoting constructive and pragmatic cooperation through dialogue.
According to Bloomberg on April 7th, Raymond called on European governments to cooperate with the United States in areas such as climate change and chips to counter China's influence in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Friday.
