2023 Spring Festival Is The Second Spring Festival Of This Century

The Spring Festival is the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar, but its date in the Gregorian calendar is not fixed. Yang Jing, member of the Chinese Astronomical Society and director of the Tianjin Astronomical Society, said that the Gregorian calendar is based on the movement cycle of the earth around the sun for one cycle (a return year), with a total of 12 months in a year. The number of years in the Gregorian calendar that can be divided by four is 366 days in leap years, and 365 days in ordinary years. However, for the whole century, such as 2000 and 2100, only the first two digits are divided by four is a leap year, otherwise it is still a normal year, so there are 97 leap years in every 400 years.
As a traditional calendar in China, the lunar calendar has a history of thousands of years. It is a combination of yin and yang calendar, which arranges the number of days in each month according to the change of moon phase, that is, a new moon. The average length of a lunar month is 29.53 days, 12 months in a year, 354 days or 355 days in total, and very few are 353 days.
In this way, the number of days in the lunar calendar year is about 11 days less than that in the Gregorian calendar year. If there are 11 days less each year, there will be more than one month less in three years, and there will be a difference of half a year in 16 years. In order to make up the "time difference" between the two calendars, our wise ancients added 7 leap months in every 19 lunar years, that is, 7 leap months in 19 years. The year of the leap month is called the leap year, and the rules for placing the leap month are determined according to the 24 solar terms, so the position of the leap month in each leap year is also different. For example, 2014 is the leap September, 2020 is the leap April, and 2023 is the leap February, which also leads to the arrival of the Gregorian calendar corresponding to the Spring Festival sometimes early and sometimes late.
Yang Jing said that in the 21st century, the earliest Spring Festival appeared on January 21 in the Gregorian calendar, and the latest Spring Festival appeared on February 19 in the Gregorian calendar, with a difference of nearly one month. In the 100 years, there were two earliest Spring Festival, 2061 and 2099; The second Spring Festival has four times, respectively in 2004, 2023, 2042 and 2080.
"The Chinese traditional calendar has a long history, takes into account the changes of the sun and the moon, contains more natural information, has more functions, and makes the Spring Festival fall on the Gregorian calendar sooner or later, which also enriches the cultural connotation of the Spring Festival and makes it colorful."
